We will be holding an AmeriCorps information session on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Bookmark Cafe in the Library. You can drop in at any time between 2 and 4 and AmeriCorps representatives will be available to speak with you.

We currently have a number of positions open with the following agencies:

Cortland City Youth Bureau

Cornell Cooperative Extension

Cortland Soil and Water

Seven Valleys Health Coalition

YWCA

Full-time AmeriCorps members earn a living allowance of $11,400 and an educational award (to be applied towards future college tuition or to pay down studen tloans) of $4,725. Half-time positions earn a pro-rated allowance and educuational award. Full-time members earn health care benefits, too.

there will be a 10th Anniversary Memorial Mass for Rev. Edward J. O’Heron.

Fr. O’Heron served as the Catholic chaplain at SUNY Cortland from 1961 until his death in November of 1999.

There will be no 8:00 p.m. mass at O’Heron Newman Hall that night.

O’Heron Newman Hall is up the hill from Corey Union

The mass schedule at O’Heron Newman Hall for the rest of this semester can be found among the files posted in the Catholic Community Group on MyRedDragon.

The new way to find out what’s happening at SUNY Cortland is via myRedDragon. "Catholic Community" is the group that has been created to facilitate communication about Catholic campus ministry. To join it, go to www.cortland.edu, click myRedDragon, in the upper right hand corner. Use your NetID and password to login. Then click on the groups icon at the upper right of the page. Select the "groups index" tab. "Catholic Community" is listed under cultural groups. Click on "Catholic Community" to get to the "join group" button. Join the group, and you will be able to access announcements about Catholic services and activities!

To see when new information has been added, you can even add a group activity channel to your myRedDragon homepage. Directions for doing that can be found among the Files available to those who have joined "Catholic Community."

OPEN RECREATION SCHEDULE FOR THANKSGIVING BREAK All Students and Faculty/Staff,

All recreation facilities (except for the Tomik Fitness Facility and Park Center Pool) will close for Thanksgiving break at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, and will reopen at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 29. Please note that Park Center Pool will not be available for the early morning session on Tuesday, November 24. The following facilities will be open over the break as indicated below.

I hope your semester is going well. My name is Jeremiah Best and I am a junior at SUNY Cortland. I am a childhood education major. I am currently working on a study that focuses on the lack of male professionals in the childhood education field. Currently, according to the National Education Association, only nine percent of elementary teachers are male. It is our desire to get a glimpse of why male college students decide on the majors they do and why they do not pursue elementary education as a future career.
