SUNY Cortland Sport Clubs

Attention all students,

The Tae Kwon Do club will be holding an organizational meeting on Thursday, September 10 at 7:00pm by Poolside in Park Center. Please bring something to write with, as well as your health insurance cards or other proof of medical insurance with policy numbers, group numbers, etc. Proof of medical insurance is mandatory prior to participation with any sport club.

Everyone did a great job at the annual Buffalo tournament this past weekend.  The team competed well, and supported all teams, not just their own.  Everyone took home a medal, many of which were gold.

Nate Banden took his first in a sparring along with Rachel Kennedy, Jim Kata, Stephen Lamoute, and many others.  In the board breaking part of the competition everyone did an outstanding job.

Amanda Neville took first place and Jess Przepiora took second.  All in all the club did very well, and enjoyed their time in Buffalo.  Check back for updates next semester!

The Cortland Tae Kwon Do club performed very well at the Cornell University tournament despite injuries and the addition of many new members with little experience. Seung Jeung placed first in the men’s black belt forms, while Cassandra Graczyk placed third in women’s green belt forms. Many other first-time competitors did a great job in both forms and sparring.

All club members, both returners and those who are new to the club, fought hard to place in the competition. The club fought hard and didn’t give up, despite several injuries. Cortland’s Jess Przepiora persevered and sparred a great match. Jen Ospina stayed strong during her match, despite an ankle injury.

The senior members were very proud of the first time competitors. All in all, the tournament was a success, and the club looks forward to future competitions.

The Cortland Tae Kwon Do club participated in an INCTL tournament at MIT in Cambridge, MA. The following are results from the competition:

Amanda Neville - 1st place in yellow belt forms division

Chrissy Natoli - Won 8-5 in Women’s A-Team Black Belt sparring division match

Joe Lee - Won 8-0 in white belt men’s C-team sparring match

The Tae Kwon Do club hosted the Kristen O’Neil Memorial Tournament on Sunday, March 25th. Money raised from the event for the past three years has been donated towards the endowment of an annual $1000 scholarship. This year, they accomplished their goal. The Kristen O’Neil Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a current Sport Club member with at least two full semesters of participation, who has positively contributed to the success of their sport club on and off the field.

The Tae Kwon Do club would like to extend their congratulations to all who competed and their deepest gratitude to all those whose participation and charitable contributions have allowed the scholarship to be fully endowed! Thank you!
