SUNY Cortland Sport Clubs

Attention all female students,

The Women’s Volleyball club will be holding an organizational meeting on Tuesday, September 8 at 4:15pm by Poolside in Park Center. Please bring something to write with, as well as your health insurance cards or other proof of medical insurance with policy numbers, group numbers, etc. Proof of medical insurance is mandatory prior to participation with any sport club.

If you are interested, but cannot attend the meeting, please contact Kendall Lawrence at kendall.lawrence@cortland.edu.

The SUNY Cortland women’s volleyball club entered an A-squad and a B-squad into their home tournament on Sunday to kick off the fall season in the Northeast Women’s Volleyball Club League (NWVCL). Cortland’s A-squad finished the day with a 3-3 record and advanced as far as the semifinals in the Gold Bracket of the tournament before losing to the eventual tournament champion, Syracuse. The scores for the A-squad were as follows:

Canisius 1, Cortland-A 1 (21-25, 25-23)
UMass 0, Cortland-A 2 (25-12, 25-12)
Boston University 2, Cortland-A 0 (15-25, 20-25)
Binghamton-A 1, Cortland-A 2 (25-20, 15-25, 15-5) - Gold Bracket Quarterfinal
Syracuse 2, Cortland-A 0 (20-25, 18-25) - Gold Bracket Semifinal

The Cortland-B squad finished the afternoon with an overall record of 1-5. This is the first season that the club has been able to enter a second team into NWVCL tournaments. The team played Cornell, Binghamton, and Albany in pool play before losing to Canisius in the quarterfinal match of the Silver Bracket. The scores for the B-squad were as follows:

10/26 Cornell 2, Cortland-B 0 (15-23, 20-25)
10/26 Binghamton 2, Cortland-B 0 (13-25, 17-25)
10/26 Albany 1, Cortland-B 1 (25-21, 19-25)
10/26 Canisius 1, Cortland-B 0 (14-25) - Silver Bracket Quarterfinal

Cortland will host another NWVCL tournament in the Spring semester. The tournament is scheduled for Sunday, March 29th in the Corey Gymnasium in Park Center. Until then, check back for updated match results and information about the club!

Hamilton, NY

On Saturday, March 1st, the Cortland women’s volleyball club competed in an NWVCL tournament at Colgate University. In pool play the club went 6-3 playing Penn State (23-25, 25-23, 14-25), Binghamton (25-19, 25-14, 26-24), and UMass (25-16, 23-25, 25-15). The club finished 2nd in their bracket and advanced to the gold brackets in the playoffs. Unfortunately, they fell in the 1st round losing 2-0 to Syracuse University (15-25, 10-25).

The club will travel to Dallas, TX in April to compete in the NIRSA volleyball national championships. Please check back to this site for updated schedule and result information!

The Cortland women’s volleyball A-squad went 2-2-1 at an NWVCL tournament held in Syracuse this past weekend. Results from the matches are listed below:

In other action that day, the women’s B-squad went 0-1-2 against Colgate, Ithaca, and Canisius. Results are listed below:

Cortland 0, Canisius 2 (12-25, 16-25)

Binghamton, NY

The Cortland women’s volleyball club played in a pre-season tournament at Binghamton University on October 27th. The unofficial event was attended by Binghamton, Cortland, Syracuse, & Albany. Cortland finished pool play 3-0 on the day, beating Binghamton 25-11, Syracuse 25-23, and Albany 25-14.  Unfortunately their luck didn’t hold as the team lost in the semi-finals to Syracuse in three games.

The women’s volleyball club competes in the Northeast Women’s Volleyball Club League (NWVCL). Check back soon for tournament results and competition updates as the Red Dragons begin their season-long march to the NIRSA national tournament in Dallas, TX this March!
