Cheerleading Tryout Information
SUNY Cortland Cheerleading will be holding its spring tryouts in the Gymnastics Room (D-309) at Park Center on April 27, 29 and 30 from 9pm - 11pm.
If you are interested in trying out, you should attend all of these dates. On the 27th there will be a sideline and motion sequence to learn for performance on the 30th.
For all three days you will be judged on work ethic, attitude, and the ability to pick up on skills.
There will be a basic rubric for tryouts which will be posted soon. This will outline further requirements.
If you can not attend these dates or you are an incoming freshman/transfer for next year, you can contact us and send in a skills tape for us to review. We will have the team selected for football season a week following the final tryout date.
You can email us a link to your tryout video (if you post on facebook or youtube) to cortlandcheer@gmail.com
If you want to send in a DVD or video, you can send it to:
SUNY Cortland Recreational Sports
E-245 Park Center
Attn: Cheerleading
PO Box 2000
Cortland, NY 13045
Guidelines for Video Submission:
Everyone should include 3 jumps (one must be a toe touch, another must be a pike, and a third jump of your choice). We would like to see jumps connected, and will score those who connect multiple jumps higher. Also if you connect tumbling to the end of jumps, it will score higher.
Everyone should show their best running tumbling pass, along with their best standing tumbling skill. Spots are ok, but non-spotted skills will be scored higher. Remember, technique will be rewarded, not just difficulty.
Fliers should show a front flexible skill (heel stretch, bow and arrow, etc) and back flexible skills (scale, scorpion, etc). Each stunt sequence should have a cradle dismount; spinning down will be rewarded. Multiple body positions should be displayed, and you can connect all skills into one sequence.
Bases and backspots should be able to hold one legged skills in an extended position, along with catching a spinning dismount.
Showing versatility (being able to do different positions: base, backspot, flier) will be a plus.
Any questions, please feel free to contact us at CortlandCheer@gmail.com
Thanks for your time, and we really look forward to seeing you at tryouts!
