Women’s Basketball Club Interest Meeting!

Attention all female students,

The Women’s Basketball club will be holding an organizational meeting on Tuesday, September 15 at 7:00pm by Poolside in Park Center. Please bring something to write with, as well as your health insurance cards or other proof of medical insurance with policy numbers, group numbers, etc. Proof of medical insurance is mandatory prior to participation with any sport club.

If you are interested, but cannot attend the meeting, please contact Chelsea Einhorn at Chelsea.Einhorn@cortland.edu.

Women’s Basketball Beats Bombers

The SUNY Cortland women’s basketball club hosted the Ithaca College Bombers for a game on Sunday, 2/15, and walked away with a 12 point win. Cortland’s Jen Nixon led the club with 6 points in the 42-30 win over Ithaca. Teammate Kristi Freitag added 5 points and Kristin Howe chipped in 4 points of her own in the victory.

With the victory, the club evens their season record at 3-3. They will head to Boston University this weekend to participate in the NIRSA NCCS Regional Basketball tournament held there. Check back next week for updated results and schedule information.

Women’s Basketball Dominates Colgate in Home Opener!

The Cortland Women’s Basketball team dominated Colgate on Saturday afternoon, winning 51-17. Cortland’s defense played strong throughout the game. Colgate did not hit their first shot until over ten minutes had gone by in the first half.

The girls were strong on the offensive end as well, dominating the first and second half. Cortland’s Jess Forte scored 10 points in the first three minutes of the game.

Women’s Basketball Makes It Two In A Row With Win Over Colgate

The women’s basketball club led the visiting Colgate Raiders 29-17 at the end of the 1st half and never looked back, winning by a final score of 51-37. The game was played in the Moffett Gymnasium on the SUNY Cortland campus. MaryKate Hill & Nicole Corcoran combined to hit 5 three-point field goals in the 1st half. Corcoran finished the game with eight points, while Hill and fellow Red Dragon teammate Kristin Howe each had nine. All of Howe’s nine points were scored in the second half. Sophomore Rachel Rabbin led all Cortland scorers with 10 points.

During the game, all Cortland players wore pink socks to participate in and show their support for the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) “Think Pink” initiative for breast cancer awareness.

The 14 point win was the second in a row for the Red Dragons, who will travel to Boston in March to participate in a tournament hosted by Boston University. Check back to this site for updated schedules and results!

Women’s Basketball Downs Ithaca For 1st Win Of 2008

The Cortland women’s basketball club got hot at just the right time, downing the visiting Bombers of Ithaca College 44-33 on Wednesday night at home. Sophomore MaryKate Hill scored 10 points in the 1st half and added another 5 in the second, leading the Red Dragons in scoring on the night with 15 points. Fellow sophomore Kristin Howe chipped in with 9 points, senior Felicia Strauss netted 5 points, and freshman Brittany Newton went 4-4 from the line to push the club to their first win of the 2008 semester.

The club returns to the court on Saturday, February 16 in the Moffett Gymnasium when Colgate comes to town. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30pm.
