Ithaca, NY / Buffalo, NY
The Tae Kwon Do club competed in two tournaments over the past week, at Cornell University and at Buffalo State University.
Competition at the Cornell Tournament on 11/5 included Cortland, Cornell, MIT, RPI, RIT, Rutgers, Harvard, Penn, Lehigh, and Columbia. Individuals from Cortland receiving honors were:
- Chris Demarco: 2nd place in Men’s Forms Competition (Black Belt)
- Adam Gildea: 3rd place in Men’s Forms Competition (Blue Belt)
- Amanda Neville: 3rd place in Women’s Forms Competition (White/Yellow Belt) - 1st TKD competition
- Chrissy Natoli: 1st place in Women’s Individual Sparring (Lightweight Division)
Other accomplishments included the Men’s C-1 team (Richard Pettman, Lightweight; Nate Banden, Middleweight; Paul Evinaze, Heavyweight) advancing 2 rounds in the sparring competition. For Pettman and Evinaze, it was their first competition. Banden won both of his matches against Lehigh and MIT.
Competition at the Buffalo State tournament included local TKD clubs from the Buffalo area. Highlights for Cortland included:
- Every Cortland athlete to compete received at least 3rd place in every division and event (Forms, Board Breaking, Sparring)
- Chris Demarco (Black Belt) and Nate Banden (Green Belt) took 1st place in each of their events
