Women’s Team Handball Downs Furman, UNC at West Point

The Cortland Women’s Team Handball Club beat Furman University and the University of North Carolina in a tournament held at the US Military Academy at West Point on January 27-28. Official statistics were not kept for the games, but the final score of the Cortland-Furman game was 27-7 in favor of the Red Dragons.

The club also played an game against the US women’s team handball Olympic squad as an exhibition as part of the tournament.

Cortland returns to the court February 10th and 11th when they travel to Durham, NC to face UNC and other NETHC clubs. Check back soon for updates!

Ice Hockey Drops 7-2 Decision To Oswego At Home

The Cortland Ice Hockey Club suffered their most lopsided loss of the season, falling 7-2 to rival Oswego last night at home. The game featured a barrage of solid hits, physical play, and a multitude of penalties for both squads.

Lighting the lamp for Cortland was Shawn Pulvermiller (Assists: Dustin Good, James Rowlands) and Mike Cerasoli (Assists: Dan Cook, Joe Mulhern).

Goaltender Evan Jonat made 37 saves in net.

After the loss, the Red Dragon’s overall record stands at 10-4-1. Cortland returns to action Friday, February 2nd @ St. Bonaventure. Check back soon for more updates!

Gymnastics Club Announces Spring 2007 Schedule

The SUNY Cortland gymnastics club announced their Spring 2007 schedule today. Included on the schedule this Spring is the club’s first home meet, slated to take place on Saturday, February 3rd at 3:30pm. The meet will be held in the gymnastics room (D-309) on the 2nd floor of PER. Opposing teams include the University of Buffalo, Cornell University, and a member of the Syracuse University gymnastics club.

In addition to their home meet, Cortland is scheduled to participate in two other away contests:

- February 17th, @ University of Pennsylvania (Liberty Invitational) 3:30pm

- March 3rd, @ University of Buffalo, 2:30pm

  • Tryouts will be held in the Gymnastics Room in PER. 
  •  Information about team will be discussed in a short meeting at the beginning of tryouts. 
  • Please bring something to write with, as well as your health insurance cards or other proof of insurance with policy numbers, group numbers, etc.  Without this information you will be ineligible to tryout.

Men’s Ice Hockey Club Gets Spring 2007 Off To A Great Start

After a long layoff, the men’s ice hockey club picked up 2007 where they left off 2006 with a win against the University of Rochester on Friday night. Skating with only 12 members, the team cruised to a stunning 13-2 road win over U of R. Three players recorded hat tricks (Mike Cerasoli, 4G, Mike Madden, 3G, Rick Moran, 3G) and two other Red Dragons lit the lamp (Joe Mulhern, 2G, James Rowlands, G) in the lopsided victory.

Goaltender Troy Ladue turned in an excellent performance in net to secure his 2nd win of the season.

The win pushes Cortland’s record to 9-3-1 on the season. The team returns to action on January 28th, with a home game against an opponent yet to be determined. Check back soon for an update of Cortland’s next opponent!
