After having to reschedule the game from Saturday night to last night, the Cortland men’s lacrosse club finally got to play Binghamton University in the NCLL quarterfinals. Cortland fell behind 2-0 early but rallied to make it 4-2 at the end of the 1st quarter. Late in the game, Cortland had an 8-4 lead before Binghamton mounted their comeback. The Bearcats cut the lead to 8-7 with 12 minutes left in the game, but Cortland added an insurance goal with under 4 to play and held on in the final few minutes for a 9-7 win. With the victory, Cortland advances to their 4th straight NCLL Final Four appearance. In 2005, the club lost in the semi-finals, in 2006 Cortland took home the national championship, and in 2007 the club lost in the finals to Columbia. Cortland has already taken their revenge on Columbia, defeating them 11-8 in the regional semi-final match.

The national semi-final games will be played at Lynchburg University in Virginia on Saturday afternoon with the league championship game scheduled for Sunday afternoon. Cortland will play host team Lynchburg in their next game. The winning team will play the winner of Cincinnati vs. TCNJ/Millersville.

Currently, Cortland’s record stands at 8-1. The Red Dragons look to improve to 10-1 to finish their season. Good luck to the Cortland men’s lacrosse club!

Buffalo, NY

The SUNY Cortland baseball team resumed league play this weekend with a pair of games against the University of Buffalo on the road. In the opening game of the double header, Cortland fell behind 9-2 before rallying to tie the game at 9. The game would go to extra innings where Buffalo ended up winning on a walk-off homerun. Final score: 10-9 in favor of the Bulls. Tim Holder went 2-4 with a homerun and 4 RBIs.

In the nightcap, Cortland showed signs of exhaustion. The game was tied 2-2 after the 2nd inning, but Cortland’s inability to put the ball in play combined with ineffective pitching spelled disaster for the Red Dragons. They would eventually end up losing to UB 13-3 in 6 innings. Matt Bauer finished 1-3 with a 2B and 2 RBIs in the loss.

Cortland travels to Syracuse next weekend for a three game set against the Orange. Check back next week for updated scores and game summaries!
