Tae Kwon Do takes home medal at Buffalo Tournament

Posted on November 18th, 2008 in Tae Kwon Do by ClubManager

Everyone did a great job at the annual Buffalo tournament this past weekend.  The team competed well, and supported all teams, not just their own.  Everyone took home a medal, many of which were gold.

Nate Banden took his first in a sparring along with Rachel Kennedy, Jim Kata, Stephen Lamoute, and many others.  In the board breaking part of the competition everyone did an outstanding job.

Amanda Neville took first place and Jess Przepiora took second.  All in all the club did very well, and enjoyed their time in Buffalo.  Check back for updates next semester!

Golf Competes In Las Vegas

Posted on November 12th, 2008 in Golf by ClubManager

November 8-9, 2008
Las Vegas, NV

The Cortland Club Golf team sent 4 members to Las Vegas Nevada for the first time in 2 years to compete in the National Collegiate Club Golf Association Championship on the weekend of November 8th & 9th, 2008. The team of Mike English and Mike Villarosa didn’t play their best and shot a 77 but the team of John Carhart and Luke Henson played very well and shot a 71 which was good enough to tie for 7th place in the student division. Each member had some individual accomplishment to brag about on the flight home. Mike Villarosa tied for first place in the sand bunker skills competition, Luke Henson chipped in from off the green for birdie, John Carhart had the closest to pin won for a while, and Mike English won the first ever Cindy Otte Crush Award. Everyone who made the trip to Vegas had a ton of fun, were proud to represent Cortland, and are already looking forward to next year where they hope to qualify for Nationals again.

Team Handball Dominates at UNC Tournament

Posted on November 12th, 2008 in Sport Club News by ClubManager

Team Handball played in the University of North Carolina Tarheel Invitational over the weekend of 10/31- 11/2, and won first place!

Their first match was Cortland and UNC A team, Cortland winning in a close game 12-9.  The next two games Cortland dominated.  First playing North Pitt, beating them 24-3.  The next game was against UNC B, winning 20-11.  Cortland unfortunatley lost the next game, 19-18, but were able to come back and win their final first round games.

The championship game, was against West Point Black, which Cortland had lost to the day before.  It was an exciting and close game, which Cortland ended up winning 22-15!  Overall the team had a great weekend.

Mel McCormick and Janeen Hulbert had an outstanding weekend for the offensive end.  Lauren Glaser made her debut as Cortland’s starting goalie, and did a great job.  The team had a enjoyable experience in North Carolina, and the plaque should be on display soon!

Check back for Team Handball updates next semester.
