			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>GENETICS RESEARCH ASSISTANT –  CORTLAND BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES DEPT.</p>
<p>Two undergraduate summer research assistant positions are available for Summer 2010 (8 weeks), for NSF-funded plant molecular biology research in the laboratory of Dr. Patricia Conklin.  Research involves functional analysis of VTC3, a novel regulator of ascorbate biosynthesis in plants.  No previous research experience is required.</p>
<p>To apply, send Dr. Conklin  1) a cover letter describing why you are interested in the job; 2) your resume; 3) names of two references (ideally biology and chemistry professors).  Graduating seniors will not be considered.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>STUDENT RESEARCH FUNDING OPPORTUNITY FROM THE UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH COUNCIL </p>
<p>SUNY Cortland’s Undergraduate Research Council provides grants and fellowships for SUNY Cortland undergraduate students for their independent research and creative projects and for travel to present their project findings at conferences.  </p>
<p>2010 URC SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS</p>
<p>The Undergraduate Research Council anticipates offering a limited number of Summer Research Fellowships in 2010. These prestigious and highly competitive fellowships will provide a stipend to permit students to conduct primary research or creative activities with faculty mentors. Proposals from all academic disciplines will be welcome.</p>
<p>The fellowships provide an opportunity for undergraduate students and their faculty mentors to engage in eight weeks of full-time scholarly activity during the summer of 2010.  Each fellowship consists of a $2,750 student award and a $1000 faculty award. In addition, the Residence Life and Housing Office has partnered with the Undergraduate Research Council to offer up to eight weeks of campus housing for student fellows. Housing will be provided in a standard double room with a roommate as additional benefit the fellowship.</p>
<p>Eligibility Requirements</p>
<p>1.   Faculty mentors may receive funding for only one fellowship.<br />
2.   Student must be a sophomore, junior, or a senior graduating in December 2010 or after.<br />
3.   Student cannot be the recipient of a prior Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship award.<br />
4    Fellowship funding must be fully expended by August 21, 2010.</p>
<p>Expectations</p>
<p>1.   Mandatory attendance at an awardee reception meeting in late April or early /May, 2010, at which time each fellowship recipient will give a brief presentation describing their proposed scholarly activity.<br />
2.   Required presentation on the results of their research for 2011 SUNY Cortland Scholars’ Day.</p>
<p>Evaluation Criteria</p>
<p>Proposals will be reviewed by the Undergraduate Research Council. The evaluation criteria will include: The intellectual quality of the project and merit of the research/creative experience.</p>
<p>Application deadline for the 2010 summer fellowships is Noon, Friday March 5, 2010<br />
