Archive for March, 2008

Much like March Madness, Opening Day in baseball is a “Sports Holiday.” Today my Yankees will be facing off against one of their AL East rivals, the Toronto Blue Jays, but the real story is that this home opener is the last in the House That Ruth Built. However, it is raining like crazy in NYC. So it makes me wonder …

… if people really are in heaven and have an influence on every move we make here on Earth, then did the Babe make the heavens burst with rain today, thus canceling the home opener? Nobody rains on the Babe’s parade, even we he’s dead!!

ps- Opening Day part duex in the bronx will take place tomorrow night at 7:05pm. Wang v. Halliday. Let’s Go Yankees!!!

2008_d1_m_basketball_champ_logo.jpg There are many holidays that we celebrate no matter what religion you worship. But in sports there are only a few: Super Bowl Sunday, the NFL Draft, Daytona 500, and MLB Opening Day (and thanks to the Red Sox and A’s we can celebrate that last one at 7:37am on March 26th!!). But there is one sports holiday that is comparable to Christmas morning … The NCAA DI Men’s Basketball Brackets!! Now luckily, we get to celebrate Bracketology for a few weeks!!

I’m not a huge basketball fan, but I do watch the NBA Finals. However, I long for the day that the Brackets are announced. My family and I celebrate Bracketology in it’s traditional fashion. Place your money, submit your filled bracket, and prepare for the ultimate high of 63 blood, sweat, and tears basketball games!! Wa-hoooo!!!!!

Here is a .pdf link of ESPN’s bracket so you can celebrate Bracketology too!: 08mens_bracket.pdf

HAPPY BRACKETOLOGY 2008!! & Go Longhorns!!! :D

My Jets finally woke up from their off-season hell and finally realized that they need to spend money! The Jets not only dropped dead weight (Vilma LB to NO; Robertson NT to CIN), but they gained much more. The Jets have reportedly signed long-term deals with Alan Faneca and Damien Woody (Offensive Lineman), Kris Jenkins (D-Line), and Calvin Pace (DE/LB). The Jets signed all the players above to deals or extentions for five to six years with all of them getting around twenty million gauranteed. The Jets now have four out of their five O-Lineman who were former first round picks: D’Brickashaw Ferguson (2006), Alan Faneca (1998), Nick Mangold (2006), and Damien Woody (1999).

Now all the Jets need is a gun slinging QB, and I would seriously consider them a team to watch for in the 2008 NFL Season. I can’t wait for this year’s draft!!!
