Jay Gibbons, Rick Ankiel, Troy Glaus, and Gary Matthews Jr.. They might not be the biggest names in the MLB, but they sure are trying to be. All of the mentioned players have been accused by various sources of taking Human Growth Hormone, aka a steroid. No other professional league has been under the steroid cloud more than Major League Baseball. It’s a shame what these players did, but to quote San Diego RB LaDainian Tomlinson yesterday, “If you ain’t cheatin’, you’re not trying.” Bill Belichick and the Patriots cheated against the Jets last Sunday, but are we now supposed to put “videotaping” and “steroids” in the same sentence? Yes, cheating is cheating now matter what you do. And I’m glad that Commissioner Selig is contemplating HGH testing for 2008. Finally, a good step in ridding steroids in baseball, and possbily all professional sports.

Major League Baseball, furious at the continued criticism of its drug-testing policy, is convinced the program is the strongest in U.S. sports despite there being no practical test for human growth hormone.”Human growth hormone is a problem for all sports,” said Rob Manfred, MLB’s chief labor lawyer. “I know the other leagues are concerned about it, too.”http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/2007-09-13-baseball-hgh-policy_N.htm
