New York State Library and the New York Public Library

Filed under: Tips — Amanda Hollister @ 5:45 pm

Memorial Library has many great databases – but did you know you can get more for free?

The New York State Library and the New York Public Library can help you with your research. A card can get you access to thousands of articles from your home or office, saving you time and gas.

Databases available: Project Muse, AnthroSource, Sanborn Maps, Proquest Historical Newspapers (including the New York Times), Civil War: A Newspaper Perspective, and more. Check here for a list of databases, and here for a list of journals.

Get a card: Write nyslcirc@mail.nysed.gov and ask for a state employee borrower’s card. An application will be mailed to you. Send it back with a photocopied pay stub and a copy of your Cortland ID.

New York Public Library

Databases available: Columbia Granger’s World of Poetry, African American History Online, Chinese E-Journal Collection, and more here

Get a card: Any NY resident or student is eligible. Start on their website here. Under the picture of the “Branch Libraries – Circulating Collections” card, click on “Apply for a library card”.

Don’t forget to ask a librarian at Memorial Library if you need any help with your research!
