Saskia Art Images

Filed under: New Materials, Electronic Resources — Amanda Hollister @ 8:44 pm

Saskia art images are now available to the SUNY Cortland community for search and download!

Earlier this year we purchased 6,093 high resolution digital art images from Saskia, Ltd. along with some metadata describing the images and providing the title, artist’s name, and other basic information about the artwork depicted in the images. The collection consists of photos of artworks, taken by professional photographers employed by Saskia Ltd or Davis Art Images. The art was chosen based on subjects depicted in plates of standard art history and architecture textbooks. We are working to make these images available to our users in two ways: through ARTstor - which is still in process - and through the SUNY Dspace server. Dspace access to these images is now available to any computer on the SUNY Cortland network. Off-campus access is theoretically available to those who register with SUNY Dspace using a cortland.edu email address, but this has not been tested yet.

You can search the images by keywords or specific fields, or you can browse the contents of the collection by title or by “author” (creator). A thumbnail of the image is shown; select an image to display a brief or full record of the information about the image. Clicking on View/Open at the bottom of the brief or full display opens a full-size .jpg file of the image, which can then be downloaded and copied by our users for their academic use. Our license allows faculty, staff, and students to use these images for any teaching or research (educational) use.

Because SUNY Binghamton has made its images available to all of SUNY through Dspace, our users can search all of Dspace and will find art images in both our Saskia collection and the Binghamton Visual Resources Collection.
