Stapler Research Project

Filed under: New Services — Amanda Hollister @ 11:44 am

Memorial Library will be conducting an intensive quantitative study of reactions of fear, horror, and terror in response to the new stapler at the reference desk.   Funded by a grant from the Department of Defense, assessment will occur over a period of six months at the library reference desk.  Data will be collected via a comprehensive survey of library users and by analysis of closed-circuit television using the Dartfish software package.  The findings will be crucial for the experimental weapons program for the Army’s Psychological Warfare unit, which will establish whether staplers equipped with extension cords should be parachuted into hot zones to demoralize the enemy.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Mr. April Fool

New EReserves System

Filed under: Electronic Resources, New Services — Amanda Hollister @ 4:35 pm

Memorial Library has contracted with Docutek to create a new electronic reserves system for electronic documents. Now students can access their reserves online from any computer, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The system can be searched by instructor, department, course name, or course number, and more than one student can view the same document at once. Students don’t have to worry about making copies, and faculty don’t need to worry about lost or mutilated material. Contact Sherry Ellis at X2526 to start using EReserves.

SFX

Filed under: Electronic Resources, New Services — Amanda Hollister @ 6:23 pm

SFX is a new product that the library is using to provide links to the fulltext of articles in nearly all the library’s databases. Look for the SFX icon and click on it to “Find Fulltext”. If no fulltext is available, and the library doesn’t own the item you want you can interlibrary loan the item using the “Request document via ILLiad” link. The SFX link can also be used to search the library’s catalog to see if we own an item.
