Posted on November 25th, 2008 in Basketball (Women's), Sport Club News by ClubManager

The Cortland Women’s Basketball team dominated Colgate winning 51-17.  Cortland’s defense was so strong throughout the game, that it took Colgate more then ten minutes to even get a score on the board!

The girls were strong on the offensive end as well, dominating the first and second half.  Jess Forte scored 10 points in the first three minutes of the game alone!

The Cortland Women’s basketball club also played in Rochester this weekend.  Check back for games and updates next semester!

Cheerleading Tryouts!

Posted on November 20th, 2008 in Cheerleading by ClubManager

CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS!!

We invite all men and women to try out for Cortland’s cheerleading team for the upcoming basketball/competition season!

Come join the team that placed 1st and 2nd in national competitions last year!

We attend all home men’s and women’s basketball games and participate in 2-3 competitions in the spring.

The try-out date is Monday, December 1st — 9:00 PM - 11:00 PM in D-309 Park Center (Gymnastics Room).

If you cannot make this date, please contact Coach Jamie Jett (jamie.jett@cortland.edu) for special accommodations. We want to make sure all those interested have a chance to try-out!

Try-outs will be similar to an open practice. We are looking for the following skills:
- Strength/flexibility for stunting.
- Tumbling (standing and running)
- Dancing ability/rhythm
- Jumps (height and flexibility). Ability to execute strong toe-touches, pike jumps, and combination jumps

This year a Spirit Team will be selected to cheer at all home women’s basketball games. Requirements will not include tumbling and will have more emphasis on game cheering skills. Tumbling will be considered if the athlete has the skill. The Spirit Team will focus on game cheerleading, and serve as alternates to the competitive team.

Please bring your insurance card and a pen with you on 12/1. Without this information you will be ineligible to tryout.

For further questions, please e-mail jamie.jett@cortland.edu

Tae Kwon Do takes home medal at Buffalo Tournament

Posted on November 18th, 2008 in Tae Kwon Do by ClubManager

Everyone did a great job at the annual Buffalo tournament this past weekend.  The team competed well, and supported all teams, not just their own.  Everyone took home a medal, many of which were gold.

Nate Banden took his first in a sparring along with Rachel Kennedy, Jim Kata, Stephen Lamoute, and many others.  In the board breaking part of the competition everyone did an outstanding job.

Amanda Neville took first place and Jess Przepiora took second.  All in all the club did very well, and enjoyed their time in Buffalo.  Check back for updates next semester!
