SUNY Cortland Sport Clubs

The SUNY Cortland men’s basketball club made a solid run at the NCCS Regional Basketball Championships, being the overall #1 seed at the start of tournament play before losing to Hofstra in the quarterfinals. In pool play, Cortland took care of business against The College of New Jersey (51-35), Adelphi (49-33), and Assumption (42-16) to earn the top seed. In the rout of Assumption, Cortland led 22-4 at the half and held the Greyhounds to just 12 second half points en route to the victory.

With a 3-0 record and a +58 point differential, Cortland entered tournament play as the #1 seed and faced off against Hofstra. At the half, the Red Dragons were tied at 29 apiece with the Pride. In the 4th quarter, Cortland found themselves trailing by 8 before going on an 8-0 run to tie things up late in the game. In the end, Hofstra got the best of the Red Dragons, besting them by a six point margin in the tournament quarterfinals, 63-57. Dave Vistocco led the club with 26 points in the loss, while Ezra Scott and Brian Kiefer each chipped in 14 points.

Ithaca, NY

The SUNY Cortland Gymnastics saw their first competitive action of the season last weekend when they traveled to Cornell University for a meet. Other competitors at the meet included host team Cornell, Buffalo, Penn, and Syracuse. Several of the Cortland gymnasts placed in their events. Cortland’s Alyssa Atwood finished in second place in the uneven bars, while Krissy Cozier finished in 5th place on the balance beam. In her first ever collegiate competition, Elizabeth Reed received an 8.2 from the judges in the floor routine. Overall, Cortland finished the competition in 3rd place. The club will now look forward to their next meet in Syracuse on March 27th. Check back soon for updated schedule and result information!

Glastonbury, CT

The weekend didn’t go quite as the SUNY Cortland Roller Hockey club had envisioned, as they were beaten in all three games at Glastonbury, CT. In the first game of the weekend, the Red Dragons were defeated by UMass - Amherst, 8-4. Brendan Joyce and Chris Poplarski scored two times each for Cortland’s goals, while Joyce, Harris Barton and Tommy Farr each added an assist. Bryan Buchalski made 28 saves in net for Cortland.

Against Ramapo, Nick Boffoli scored Cortland’s only two goals with Miguel Valle adding an assist on one of the goals. Cortland fell by a score of 5-2, despite goaltender Ross Midgen’s 21 saves. In the final game of the weekend, Cortland was blanked by undefeated Northeastern, 6-0. Ross Midgen made 31 saves, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Huskies, who shutout Cortland for the first time this season.

Despite the losses, the Red Dragons still qualified for the ECRHA Regional Tournament in Feasterville, PA. Check back soon for updated schedule and results from the SUNY Cortland Roller Hockey club!

The SUNY Cortland wrestling club performed well at their first ever competitive meet, hosted by RPI. The club was 3-1 in their four matches, with their lone loss coming against host team RPI. Individual results for each match are as follows:
