What is a blog?

A blog (short for “web log”) is a website that allows you to post news, thoughts, or other comments where others can read them.

What can I do with a blog?

You can use a blog to post announcements, let students know about employment opportunities, discuss scholarly issues, or give your students a public forum to present findings and air views.

How can I get a blog?

Cortland provides you with a free on-campus blog. Go to http://blog.cortland.edu and click on the “Create a blog” link on the right. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dan Harms, Instructional Services Librarian, at X4042 or daniel.harms@cortland.edu.

There may be several reasons that you do not wish for astudent to know his/her grade immediately after you have entered it.  One may be that you are grading multiple essays and do not want one student to know their grade and then have another not receive a grade for several hours or even a day.

To diminish this there is a way to hide the student grades until you are ready.  You can find the directions here: GradeBook-HidingGradesfromStudents

eLearning for Faculty – Creating an Anonymous Survey

Surveys are anonymous tests in eLearning for which no grades are assigned but which provide you with statistics. Survey responses are automatically tabulated and the results are summarized.  Because the results are anonymous, surveys are ideal for course evaluations or for canvassing opinions on an issue discussed in the course.

Basic CMS User Guide (.pdf)

SUNY Cortland has implemented a Content Management System (CMS) to make managing and contributing content to our college Web site a more simple collaborative process.

The CMS is not intended for use for individual faculty member Web pages but rather for use on any Web sites on the main college server (www.cortland.edu).
