Classroom Media Services (CMS) has a new classroom (Sperry 309) available that records and stores classroom presentations, and synchronizes audio, video and graphics. The recordings can be distributed online for people to view at their convenience through a standard web browser, making it easy to navigate and play from any point in you presentation.

RUCKUS

Filed under: Administrative Computing — Daniel Sidebottom @ February 12th, 2009

As of Friday February 6 2009, Ruckus the University-focused music and movie download service, has shut down. Unfortunately the University was not informed of this in advance

During these extraordinary economic times, Ruckus is one of the many businesses being forced to close its doors.

For those of you that took advantage of this service, the Ruckus music currently on your computers today will continue to play until the individual digital-rights-management license expires.  We are very disappointed about the loss of this service and especially by the inconvenience this has caused our students.

For additional information, please see the following article posted in the Chronicle of Higher Education:

Other legal options for listening or downloading music and movies are:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/overview/ iTunes lets you play and own songs, watch shows, rent and own movies, whatever keeps you entertained

www.pandora.com and www.last.fm are two sites that provide streaming music and both are a free and legal way to listen to music.

www.myspacemusic.com is another free legal music option that has features similar to what Ruckus provided.

www.hulu.com provides streaming video and is a free and legal way to watch some of your favorite TV shows and some movies too.

For additional legal music sites, please check this website:  http://www.musicunited.org/6_legalsites.html

64bit Vista VPN Client

Filed under: Administrative Computing — Josh Peluso @ February 4th, 2009

At this time we do not have a 64bit VPN client for Windows Vista users.  Our current hardware does not have a compaitable client, and will not support 64bit at this time.  We expect to upgrade the hardware sometime this summer, at which time a 64bit client will be available.
