Guidelines for Departmental Purchases of Data Projectors and Media Hardware

Filed under: Classroom Media Services, Policies — Information Resources @ March 21st, 2001

Data projectors are permanently installed in the Technology classrooms; an inventory of
projectors is also available for loan from Classroom Media Services. In addition to these
centrally owned and maintained data projectors, departments may purchase data projectors
for their dedicated use, according to the following guidelines.

Classroom Media Services should be consulted to make a recommendation for purchase.

This assures:

  • compatibility with hardware, software, and peripheral media equipment;
  • appropriateness for instructional space(s);
  • required resolution for projection;
  • ability to be supported and maintained by Classroom Media Services staff.

The campus cannot standardize on one projector because models frequently change and the requirements of the projector vary, based on the instructional space and the type of resolution required.

Deans will only approve requests that have been reviewed by Classroom Media Services with their recommendation.

To assure compatibility with classroom projection systems and compliance with supported media formats (e.g. VHS, Digital 8, DVD), it is strongly recommended that Classroom Media Services be consulted when purchasing other media equipment.
